Alan Phillips was named SVP, Innovation and Capability Strategy, in January 2026. Previously, Alan served as VP, Product Development, where he led various product development and project management teams in the Go-to-Market division. Alan was instrumental in creating new client‑centered development methodologies. These efforts led to several successful new and enhanced products, including a fully redesigned VitalPoint® pharmacy portal.
In his current role, Alan uses input from Optum clients and expertise across Optum functional areas to set the strategic direction for program innovation and product capabilities. He also assists in driving sales strategies and organizational innovation and oversees the development of programs, products and services that resonate with the market.
Alan is uniquely positioned for his role with nearly 20 years of product development, implementation and project management experience in the workers’ compensation and auto no-fault industries, as well as deep knowledge of pharmacy and ancillary systems, portals and tools. Throughout his career, Alan has managed the creation of key products and services, leveraging project management, market and financial knowledge and planning discipline to drive innovation. As both a critical strategist and collaborative leader, Alan is instrumental in unifying and establishing consistent processes across multiple lines of business.
