Meloxicam Price decrease and the impact on medicare set asides (MSAs)
As you may have heard, meloxicam had a major price decrease within the last month. Meloxicam (generic formulation of Mobic) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID), which is commonly prescribed for workers’ compensation injuries.
Drug Name, dose and formulation |
National Drug Code (NDC) |
Drug class | Prior AWP* | New AWP** |
---|---|---|---|---|
Meloxicam 15 mg tablet | 76282-0153-10 | NSAID | $4.25/tablet | $0.05/tablet |
Meloxicam 7.5 mg tablet | 76282-0152-10 | NSAID | $2.78/tablet | $0.05/tablet |
*Current WCMSA portal price
**Expected 4/2020 WCMSAP price
This price change could have a major impact to your Workers’ Compensation Medicare Set-Asides (WCMSAs). For example, if a MSA includes meloxicam 15 mg #30 per month, over a 20 year life expectancy, adjusting the MSA to reflect the new price will decrease the overall cost by $30,240.
