Women in Leadership

Learn how Kellie takes a unique approach to her work and how she strives to keep a good work/life balance.

Meet Kellie

To what do you attribute your success as a leader for Optum Workers’ Comp and Auto No-fault?

I can thank some of my success to the many great mentors and leaders I had the pleasure of working with throughout my career. In many ways, these people have influenced me and have ultimately helped shape my career path.

What are the main challenges for female leaders?

Female leaders are typically faced with the challenge of feeling the need to be all things to all people, both at work, as well as in our personal lives.

What is your “Secret Sauce” i.e what are the 3 – 5 principles that you have discovered and executed that have contributed to your success?

I try to follow these principles every day to make a difference in my relationships, my work and my success.

  1. Focus on basic fundamentals/execution
  2. Have a positive attitude
  3. Approach challenging situations in a calm manner
  4. Listen to truly understand

What is your superpower?

In its simplest form, developing and maintaining long-standing relationships that are built on trust.

What are you outside interests?

My top interests include volunteering in my community, traveling and remodeling/redecorating.

My husband and I own an Italian restaurant. Every couple of years, we host a trip to different regions of Italy to experience the food, wine and culture.

I also live in a town with many historic homes, which has fueled my love for real estate and decorating. I have demo'd and remodeled several of the homes we have lived in and I always have a running list of new home projects in mind to tackle.

What advice would you give other women interested in advancing to a leadership position?

Be your own advocate! Don’t be afraid to share your career aspirations to colleagues and leaders.
